Camplified Tour

Camplified tour is an orginization that brings young new artists to various camps over the course of the summer. The campers have a chance to listen to live concerts and to get autographs from the celebrities after the concert. An opportunity they wouldn't necessarily have otherwise.

This experience is great for the performers who are the same age as the campers but moreso it gives the campers incentive to believe, that even at such a young age they too can aspire to do great things.

We at Young Adult had the opportunity to sit down at Rolling River Day Camp and talk with Disney Channel star Trevor Jackson of Let it Shine. Another guest was Karlee Roberts. Karlee made her way onto TV as being a part of the much loved kids show on Nickjr, Jack’s Big Music Show.

YA: How and when did you get into acting?

TJ: Seven. I started tap dancing. I auditioned for The Lion King tour, where I got to go to Hawaii.

KR: When I was very little. I did auditions to be a print model, such as Target or Gap. I was about 4 or 5. Then I dipped into the TV waters, Jacks Big Music Show. Then I moved to films, Airplane and another one. Now I’m singing.

YA: Is your family supportive of your acting career?

TJ: Absolutely, I think that’s why I’ve been so grounded.

KR: Very supportive, and family’s here with me.

YA: Where does your inspiration come from?

TJ: Michael Jackson, Ray Charles, and Rascal Flatts. Number one would be Michael Jackson.

KR: My sister who’s here. She’s everything. She taught me different techniques, and how to be confident, and how to love what I do.

YA: Tell us about your breakout role in Let it Shine, and what the production was like?

TJ: That role was fun, really out going, kinda where I am right now. It was fun. It had such a great message about being who you are. I was happy to be a part of it, and it was such a loving environment.

YA: If you were able to go back in time and choose any role for yourself which role would that be?

TJ: Training Day – Denzel Washington. Bo Jangles, all tap-dancing.

KR: Anything would be great.

YA: Which actor or actress do you most look up to?

TJ: Sidney Portier, Muhammad Ali he changed the world by loving everyone.

KR: Mila Kunis

YA: What do you have coming up next?

TJ: A lot of music.

KR: Touring all through the summer in Camplified Tour.

YA: How did you end up on the Camplified tour?

TJ: Through my manager, branches out a lot, I love to do whatever I can.

KR: My sister handled all of that.

YA: What has the feedback been?

TJ: Been really good. Being in a position where I can inspire.

YA: And do you have a favorite book and why, or what book are you now reading?

TJ: I read, but I don’t like to read. My mind is so everywhere, I like comics. I read Spider Man. Now I’m looking forward to the movie.

KR: The Book Thief Markus Zuzack, and I love of fiction.
