Bringing up Baby with Chelsea Kane

BABY DADDY - "The Emma Dilemma" - In the episode titled "The Emma Dilemma," Ben finds out that his neighbor Kayla is hosting a playgroup for all of the kids in the neighborhood but is excluding Emma because she thinks Ben is a horrible dad. Ben devises a plan to sneak Emma into the group but when Kayla busts him, he and Tucker start a rival group of their own. Meanwhile, Danny and Amy have some relationship trouble and Danny comes to Riley for help. When Riley tries to help Danny get ready for his salsa dancing date with Amy, Amy catches them in a compromising position. Danny finds a permanent way to show Amy he is committed but ends up making a huge mistake, on an all-new episode of "Baby Daddy," airing Wednesday, August 28th at 8:30pm ET/PT on ABC Family. (ABC FAMILY/Bruce Birmelin) CHELSEA KANE, TAHJ MOWRY, DEREK THELER, JEAN-LUC BILODEAUActress Chelsea Kane has supplied a wonderful energy as part of the cast of Baby Daddy, the celebrated ABC Family sitcom that sees Ben Wheeler negotiating the demands of a baby, along with other elements (not the smallest of which is various would-be love affairs). When asked to discuss her character, Chelsea says, “Riley Perrin is best friends with the Wheeler boys—she grew up with them. She’s a type A personality, super driven, wants to be a lawyer.” And what about similarities between the actress and her character? It wouldn’t be surprising, since this enterprising young actress already has a hefty resume (including a recurring role on One Tree Hill), not to mention healthy aspirations for a parallel career in music. “There’s a lot of Chelsea in Riley – she’s definitely a guy’s girl, a hard worker. The lines are blurred where Chelsea ends and Riley begins,” Chelsea remarks.

The set of Baby Daddy is always an exciting place for the actress, whether it involves her wearing a fat suit for the hilarious flashback sequences, or going to a Renaissance Faire. “There’s always some sort of crazy costume or makeup thing going on,” she observes. “I love all the flashback scenes. The character that Jean-Luc came up with for 16-year-old Ben is one of our favorites on set. The way he talks with those braces…We have so many funny videos on our phones of Jean-Luc acting goofy. It’s hilarious!”

BABY DADDY - "Emma's First Christmas" - In "Emma's First Christmas," premiering on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 8:30pm, Ben and Danny end up in elf suits as they try and find the perfect toy for Emma, the GigGorilla, while Riley and Tucker have volunteered to help Bonnie (Melissa Peterman) pull of the perfect Christmas. (ABC FAMILY/Ron Tom) CHELSEA KANE, MELISSA PETERMANAnd specifically, audiences are excited to see BD’s special Christmas episode this month. “It’s so much fun,” Chelsea says about the special. “There’s a little extra magic in the episode. Around the holidays you want to believe in that a little more!”

For a boyfriend, Chelsea got to work with the incredible Matt Dallas (aka Kyle from Kyle XY) this season, and she couldn’t be happier. It also turns out they have a connection from back home. “I love Matt Dallas. It was so great having him on the show—we want to come back!” she says. “Matt and I actually grew up in Arizona and went to the same theater company. It was so fun getting to connect with him out here.”

Then comes the inevitable question for Chelsea: If she had to pick between one of the Wheeler boys, who would she choose and why? Panicked, she responds, “I don’t know! It’s so hard to pick. The writers keep us guessing. The third season starts with Ben and Riley together, which is nice, but it quickly falls apart because Angela comes back into the picture. So far Riley still hasn’t figured out that Danny has feelings for her, so I’m hoping at some point there’ll be some communication about that.”

Last but not least, Chelsea had a great answer for our signature question: If she could choose any TV show to be in, which show would it be and which character would she play? Chelsea’s answer: “I would probably have to go with Game of Thrones. I couldn’t pull it off, but I would love to play Calisi!”
