Austin North is an actor, joker and all around mischievous fun young man, one half of the duo at the center of Disney’s all new I Didn’t Do It, about a pair of twins getting through their first year of high school. Playing opposite Disney and Kickin’ It fave Olivia Holt, Austin shares with YA some details about his new series and the shenanigans both in front of and behind the camera.
“[I Didn’t Do It] is about a set of twins. I play Logan—we have three best friends, and we’re always getting into these crazy disastrous situations,” Austin smirks. “We have to work our way out of them. All the characters are super diverse and different on the show, and somehow we all click! It’s really fun.”
One of the main aspects of the show is how the twins manage to get into crazy conundrums, and are always looking to get away with it. Hence the title. On this notion, Austin shares candidly, “I’ve always learned to not take the blame for situations, even though a lot of the times it’s my fault J”
In fact, he feels that Logan is not a far cry from who he is as a person. “He’s very similar to me, which is kinda cool,” Austin says. “So I don’t have to be somebody that I’m not. He’s really funny—the writers do an amazing job, just giving him lots of funny lines, making him interesting. I just love playing him!”
Even though the show has just started, there is already a laundry list of crazy situations that have arisen, like a whole slew of animals on set. “The first episode was like a zoo,” Austin recalls, remembering both a goat and a snake. “There is another interesting little creature [in an upcoming episode!]” And then there’s a most recent experience that Austin loved in particular. “I end up shooting spaghetti sauce on everybody… that was fun!”
And one of the main reasons I Didn’t Do It is so much fun is thanks to the chemistry of everyone on set. Before shooting, “the producers set up a little hangout – we all went bowling had pizza,” Austin remembers. “We all just clicked right away. I’m glad we did that, because we established the chemistry before the pilot. Ever since we did that we’ve become super close friends.”
Now, they are like a family on set. “We eat lunch together every single day, usually in Sarah’s [Gilman, who plays Delia] room,” Austin remarks. “We have a blast!”
