Who is the Best Superhero Sidekick?

They say a superhero is only as good as his sidekick (…or do they? They should!). It makes sense—as long as stories of heroes have existed, mentors, confidants, best friends and sidekicks have existed as well. Where else can a savior of the world vent his (or her) frustrations and doubts? When cataloging our best and bravest superheroes, it’s important to remember their second-in-command. Cover of the Brave and the Bold: Robin SpecialRobin (Batman)

A no-brainer. Perhaps the most historic of sidekicks, Robin the Boy Wonder was taken in by Bruce Wayne and matured to become a powerful ally of the Dark Knight. With a knack for gadgets and a watchful eye, Robin definitely has Batman’s back.

Jimmy OlsonJimmy Olsen (Superman/Smallville)

The definitive gumshoe reporter at The Daily Planet, young Jimmy Olsen has gotten his friend and coworker Clark Kent out of many a pickle in the past, making him an unknowing but vital sidekick to the Man of Steel himself.

Stiles from Teen WolfStiles Stilinkski (Teen Wolf)

Geeky but outspoken, Scott’s best friend Stiles is also quite clever, and on more than one occasion the young werewolf has turned to this pal for help in some—er—hairy situations. Scott knows that he wouldn’t be where he is now without Stiles’ help.

Orco from He-ManOrco (He-Man)

Flashback time! In the beloved 80s cartoon Masters of the Universe, floating little Orco provided much-needed comic relief to the heavy matters at hand, which usually involved the imminent destruction of the galaxy at the hands of Skeletor. Not to be confused with the similarly small sidekick Snarf of Thundercats.

Kevin Keller imageKevin Keller (Archie)

While not necessarily a ‘Super’ hero, Archie is the quintessential everyman. And while Jughead has been his quintessential sidekick in the past, the world of Archie recently got a much-needed update with the addition of Kevin, a new friend of Archie who just so happens to be gay.
